Kegworth Market Place on Sunday 17th May, with stalls and shoppers enjoying a busy market morning

Kegworth is Coming Back to Life — and We're Here for It

There's something quietly exciting happening on our doorstep.

If you've walked through Kegworth Market Place recently, you might have noticed it. A little more life. A little more noise. The kind of Sunday morning energy that makes a village feel like itself again.

Our second Taste of the Three Counties trial market just happened on Sunday 17th, and despite what the gloomy weather forecast threatened, the rain held off for most of the day. It did something simple but incredibly important—it brought quality, locally grown and made produce right into the heart of Kegworth. Growers, bakers, and makers from across Leicestershire, Derbyshire, and Nottinghamshire, all in one place, all with a story worth hearing.

We're a shop right on the Market Place, so we've had a front-row seat to it all. And honestly? Watching people rediscover the pleasure of a proper market morning—stopping to chat, picking up something they didn't know they needed, and leaving with a bag full of good things—it's exactly the kind of Kegworth we hoped to be part of when we first opened The Soar Trading Co. back in 2012.

We had the shop windows sparkling, the tasters waiting inside for browsers, and the sun even tried its best to peek through the clouds. The buzz on the street was infectious, and it turns out, people didn't just stay by the stalls. One lovely comment on Facebook absolutely summed up the vibe for me:

"Loved it, my mate came from Leicester and bought goodies from several different vendors. Including the local shops. xXx lovely vibe."

That is exactly what this is all about. It’s about making Kegworth a destination again, where the permanent shops and the visiting producers lift each other up.

The Next Dates for Your Diary

We are halfway through our four market trials now, and the momentum is really building. Make sure you grab a pen and pop the final two dates straight onto the kitchen calendar:

  • Sunday 20th September — The Harvest Market

  • Sunday 1st November — The Winter Preview (Keep your eyes peeled for updates on this one, as we hope to expand our offering even further for the colder months!)

If you're local, come down for the produce and wander in to see us too. If you're travelling from further afield like Leicester or Nottingham, make a morning of it—there's more than enough reason to linger, grab a coffee, and explore.

Kegworth is worth the trip. We're biased, obviously. But after last Sunday, we think you'll agree.
